The Colorado Avalanche and What Could Be...

Colorado With Smyth gone the complete rebuild has begun. Duchene will most likely go back to juniors as he hasn’t signed a contract yet. I have the projected line-up as of now but I expect more changes to be made as we try to get younger still. I would think just about everyone is on the block except for Stastny and Quincey of course.

Possible Trades
With Smyth gone the complete rebuild has begun. Duchene will most likely go back to juniors as he hasn’t signed a contract yet. I have the projected line-up as of now but I expect more changes to be made as we try to get younger still. I would think just about everyone is on the block except for Stastny and Quincey of course.

Wolski = 1st rounder, or a young first pairing defenseman, a young first or second line player, or a potential starting goaltender.

Hedjuk = I don’t think they want to trade him but with a rebuild come changes and he is a great secondary scoring winger. Late 1st round, early second round, second or good third line player, second pairing defenseman, or a very good prospect goalie.

Svatos = late second round, third liner, second pairing defenseman, or a prospect goaltender.

Tucker = Anything at all, anything. In all seriousness, maybe a fourth or fifth rounder to take his contract.

Hannan = Second rounder, young second pairing defenseman, second or good third line player, or a very good prospect goalie.

Liles = late second, early third rounder, young defenseman, third or good fourth line player, or good prospect goalie.

Foote = I would say keep Footer around for some veteran leadership unless a deal really jumps out at you. Maybe an early second or late first round pick, or a good young player or prospect would be the only things that should pry him away.

Clark = A good defensemen on a playoff bound team, maybe he just should have been a goalie with how many shots he blocks and how slow he is. Maybe a prospect or a third or fourth round pick.

Salei = Same as Clark, a prospect or a third or fourth round pick.

Budaj = A third rounder or a good prospect I would think could be enough, he has definitely had decent moments as a goalie.

Random Thoughts

With Sacco being the new head coach it seems as though they are going back to the Quebec model of starting anew with their AHL coach and a rebuild. Hopefully that means we will get another terrific goaltender from Montreal in a few years.

If Anderson could prove to be a reliable starter for fifty-five or sixty games this rebuild could be faster then previously thought. We will have a great threesome down the middle in Stastny, Duchene, and Stoa. We have some young left wingers who if they live up to their potential could be good one and two or two and three left wingers. Wolski and Galiardi could both be prime scorers if they are brought up right by Sacco. Stewart and Jones look to be the only bright spots on the right side and neither will light it up like the first liner should. The defense is the most promising area in the Avs system. With Shattenkirk, Cohen, [bad word]iskey, Williams, and Gaunce looking to make the jump in the next couple years. If Shattenkirk is as good at the NHL level as he is at the collegiate level then he could prove to be our number one defensemen, maybe like a Kimmo Timonen type player.

With Taylor Hall being a left wing and projected to go number one and Kirill Kabanov a right wing and expected to go number two we could speed this rebuild up quickly. If we were to get one of them then we would most likely have two thirds of a top line, a great second line, a good third line, and a pretty good defensive core in a couple years. If we were to end up with one of them I think we should immediately trade to get one of the Kings prospect goalies or the Predators prospect goalies. We would then be pretty set for the next few years if we could keep the majority of the team intact.

Note: With how the Avs are doing this season,It's interesting to see how there fans weren't expecting anything, and yet look at them now.
